Instagram has introduced additional built-in protections for teen accounts, blocking teenagers under 16 from certain access without parental approval. In a statement on Tuesday, Meta said the affected accounts won’t be able to livestream or unblur images containing suspected nudity except with a parent’s permission.

The enhanced privacy and parental controls, which were introduced on Instagram last year, will address concerns about how teens are spending their time on social media, the company said. Meta's expansion of safety features for teens comes as some lawmakers say they plan to press ahead with proposed legislation,
