U.S. oil major Exxon Mobil plans to boost natural gas output and supply in Guyana through a large-scale project announced on Wednesday, following the government's call for more gas to fuel onshore power and petrochemical projects.

ExxonMobil is set to enhance natural gas production from its oil-focused operations in Guyana via a large-scale project, in response to the government's request to supply more gas to onshore power and petrochemical development projects.

XOM is gearing up for its eighth project in Guyana, known as the Longtail project, which will be the first one to produce gas that is not tied to oil production.

An ExxonMobil-led consortium, which includes Hess and CNOOC, aims to increase production capacity to more than 1.7mbbl/d by the end of 2029.

The consortium led by Exxon Mobil has requested environmental permits for its eighth project, the first that will generate gas not linked to oil production, and to explore another well.

The Government of Guyana will use produced gas for power generation and other projects. The final investment decision for related projects is expected next year.

Exxon Mobil Corp. outlined plans to increase natural gas production from oil-focused Guyana and is considering options to export the fuel to global markets, country manager Alistair Routledge said Wednesday.
