By the time Leichhardt's Grasshopper emerges in full adult glory it has already had seven style changes. It begins as a nymph, hatching from eggs in the early stages of the dry season (around April).

All grasshoppers begin their lives as eggs. Yet eggs represent the least known stage of the grasshopper life cycle. They are laid in the soil of the habitat and develop hidden from the view of humans.
