BATON ROUGE, La. (LouisianaFirst) — The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for the Baton Rouge metro area. The watch, which is in place until 8 p.m., stretches from Lake Charles to Gulfport, MS. The National Weather Service in New Orleans said that storms are expected this afternoon and into the late evening.

A trough of low pressure from the Rockies is predicted to bring rain and a slight chance of severe weather to Baton Rouge on Wednesday. A second low pressure front will bring more showers and colder temperatures over the weekend.

Much of southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi remain under a tornado watch until 8 p.m. with severe weather in the forecast Wednesday.
