KKR, an investor in Texture, also got a cut of that. From there, Apple’s Texture deal also included a guaranteed payout minimum of $145 million for the first year for those publishers.

A closure like this was bound to come. It doesn’t make sense for Apple to continue to operate both Texture and Apple News. But not everyone is thrilled about this change, of course.

With Texture, users pay a monthly fee to access around 200 different magazines – that rate used to be $14.99 per month, but not long after picking up Texture, Apple dropped it to $9.99.

Apple announced it's acquiring Texture, a digital magazine subscription service that costs $9.99 a month for access to more than 200 magazines.

Apple suggested a few ways for the stylus to capture and transmit texture. In many examples, light bounced off a textured object would move through the stylus’ clear tip or lens to a photo sensor.
