U.S. stock indexes edged lower following another reminder that big, unsettling policy changes are underway because of President Donald Trump, along with more signals suggesting the U.S. economy remains solid for now.

U.S. stocks climbed after the Federal Reserve said the economy still looks healthy enough to keep interest rates where they are. The S&P 500 jumped 1.1% Wednesday.

U.S. stocks are drifting higher Wednesday as Wall Street waits to hear what the Federal Reserve will say in the afternoon about where interest rates may be heading. The S&P 500 was up 0.3% in early trading.
