A draft agreement of a $67 million settlement between the DeSantis administration and a Medicaid contractor that had overbilled the state sheds new light on how $10 million of that amount was diverted to Hope Florida.

Florida’s top Medicaid regulator on Tuesday sought to explain that a $10 million donation made to a nonprofit associated with first lady Casey DeSantis’ community-based assistance program was not made with Medicaid dollars recouped in a much larger cash settlement.

Gov. Ron DeSantis defended the legality of a controversial $10 million donation during a Wednesday visit to Fort Pierce. He was there to announce grants for vocational training that included $4.9 million to Miami Dade College’s aircraft mechanics program.
