This is a great question, it really depends upon the person. Even great swimmers can't do much if they fall in a rapid so the most important question is can you stay calm if you were to fall in the water and would you be stressed about falling in while in the raft. If you answer no to both those questions it is worth a go. Also, bigger motorized rafts trips on the Grand Canyon like the ones we offer are much more stable and a common choice for those that are more concerned about taking an unplanned swim in the river.

Hi there. I would recommend good rain gear to start - top & bottom. If you get rain or the morning is shady and cool, you will appreciate the added protection. My philosophy has always been, "If you bring it, you won't need it. If you don't bring it, you will need it." Rain gear does not take up too much room, easily storable in a dry bag (provided). You will also want to bring a water bottle, special snacks (basic snacks will be provided), sunscreen, sun protective clothing, camera and a few bucks (or credit card) for the store stop on the way back to Peach Springs. Most importantly though, is to bring a good, flexible attitude. Going into the adventure understanding that this is an experience with variables in a remote location will heighten your enjoyment. Hi Ann, I don't work for the rafting outfit, I was a customer last fall, so I don't know if they offer any hotel pick-up. I can tell you that it departs from the West Rim in Peach Springs, and you head further West down river, then get bused back to Peach Springs. It's about 2.25 hrs between the South Rim and Peach Springs. The rafting co. partners with a lodge in Peach Springs that is nice and very economical should you choose to stay there.
