There are shorter and longer parts of the trail that can be used to summit, you can always do part of a trail for younger kids and not summit. It is a very beautiful trail. 4. Carry all of your own water, energy bars and rain jacket. The group that I hiked with ranged in age from 26-80 with experience level of zero to very experienced. All had a great time, the 80 year old man was feeling a bit strained after 10 miles and elevation gain of 2k feet. No technical equipment needed, the trail can be done with an aggressive pair of running shoes (Heavy tread)

There are bear there for sure but they prefer avoiding people. The worst time to hike is the early spring when they come out of hibernation, are hungry, and have cubs. If you’re that concerned then don’t come then and if there aren’t many people hiking then just make noise.
