We'd like to stay on Isle Royale for 2 nights. We would take the ferry from Houghton, leaving the car there. Since it only travels there on Tuesdays and Fridays and comes back on Wednesdays and Saturdays, it looks like you can only do one overnight or a 4 night stay. What am I missing?? P.S. We plan to stay in the Lodge and do some day hikes, maybe some canoeing. Are two nights enough? (It's pretty pricey.) I appreciate any guidance.

The only other option that came to mind is that if one departs from Houghton, one could return to Copper Harbor on its daily ferry & use taxi/shuttle to get back to one’s car in Houghton. Did a quick search & cost was $85 one way for 1-4 people. Might be other shuttles. Cost is high but you would not be staying extra nights. Or, do round trip on daily ferry from Copper Harbor.
Some articles say the dessert section is heavenly for kids...leading me to believe kids are welcome. Are kids truly welcome? And from what age? Our son will be 4, we take him out to dinner all the time. (This is assuming we can even get reservations).

Most trails that we went on (middle of the island, mountains) are truly not kids friendly because they are too physically demanding. Also, going through them, the path is frequently narrow and bordered by thick bushes. These are OK for adults, but may be at the kids' eye sight level. However, there are whole sections of the park next to the waterfront that are very kid friendly. Also, if you want to camp out in one of the camp sites, it can be a blast for the little ones.
