According to their website, the admission for those 13 and older is $5, from 3-12 is $3 and under 3 is free. If you call ahead, you can check on current events to see if there are special activities that you or your kids would enjoy and what their hours are. For those that live locally or are in the area for awhile, there are season household tickets that would really save some money and are affordable. I hope you will give it a try, it is a truly unique recreation area to see animals from the area.

However, there is a campground in Carlsbad and another called Pecos River. didn't stay at either, but they seem to look ok. as far as just pitching a tent somewhere, I don't know how strict the area is about camping outside a campground. good luck and make sure you visit the caverns.
