Hi We will be travelling From San Francisco to Palm Springs this summer and would like to stop along the way. Should we stop in Moonstone Beach or San Luis Obispo? Does anyone have any other suggestions? Since it's a long drive would like to stop somewhere in between.

Very different stops. Moonstone Beach In Cambria is a hwy 1 bypass strip along the ocean whereas SLO is a city away from the ocean off hwy 101 a little less than 2 hours further after taking hwy 46 east to Paso Robles then south on 101 over the grade.
We are considering travelling from San Jose down Route 1 to San Luis Obispo at the beginning of November. Is this an OK time to do this drive and how long will it take without any stops, just an overnight stop somewhere about halfway, any recommendations for eateries and hotels on the way would be appreciated. I would check out Cambria - for reasonable good tasting eats there is the Cambria grill- for fine dining with excellent wine selection there is Madeline's--- The Blue bird inn has reasonable overnight rooms--- Shamel beach is a local park that drops into wild surf where you can look for moonstones ... if you have kids there is a playground and clean restrooms and a place for picnic lunch.
